Planning ahead
Your engagement photograph session is usually your first official portrait shoot together, and probably the most beautiful photographs you’ll have of yourselves before you officially become a married couple. You’ll likely look back on these images in a couple of years remembering this blissful time of excitement, promise, and happiness. These photographs should always be special, and we want to make sure that you are fully prepared for your engagement shoot with these tips.
Location
Pick a spot that holds sentimental value — your favorite coffee shop, the place of your first date, or a destination you’re planning to visit together. This adds emotional depth and makes the images more memorable.
Shared interests
Include hobbies or activities you both enjoy — cooking, hiking, painting, or even playing board games — to make the photos unique and relatable
Clothing
Match in style rather than color — neutral or complementary tones work well, especially in natural light. If shooting in a formal setting, consider matching outfits; for casual shoots, keep it cohesive but relaxed.
I love when brides wear white to these shoots.
Make it a date
The most common and effective way to make engagement photos less nerve wrecking and more fun, is making it a date night. Since you are already dressed up, make plans to go out to dinner afterwards, a bar, etc.
Bring that BLING
I always recommend having your ring cleaned and shined before the shoot. I like to do a lot of detail photos of the ring and having it extra shiny will really make it pop in photos. This also means having your nails done or trimmed. Yes, even for the men, make sure everyone has nice polished nails for those up close photos!
